So, folks, what operating system do you use? Windows, Mac, Linux? Version, distro, whatever? Post your pick and get ready for another little sub-chapter in the age-old war of "which OS is best?".

Windows is definitely the one for the win. I use Ubuntu Linux to save other PC's.

I've begrudgingly got Vista running on this PC. There's probably a screwed up Linux partition or twelve I can't access on my large hard drive. I've tried all sorts of versions of Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, and Fedora, mostly in that order through time.

I also tried a select few others, but none of them worked for me because I just wasn't good enough to get them to my liking without the noob safety net to catch me if I horribly glitched some crucial part.

I clearly remember Arch, which was probably the stupidest overestimation of my own Bash-fu I've ever made. I thought there would at least be some simplified GUI with actual windows and such, and then I was met with a black screen with a white cursor blinking in the top left. And I actually tried to work with that and install a GUI, but then I wussed out.

... I'm getting nostalgic for my old Linux venturin' days. I think I'll download the latest Fedora install and acquaint myself with what I can, then try everything I can.

I could install Linux on my PC but it just wont work, for as a start; my wireless card isn't compatible with it.

Your wireless card isn't compatible? I don't think I've ever heard that relating to any Linux distro. It's probably just that whatever version you're using doesn't come with a driver that works with it already installed, fresh off the disk.

If you've got the know-how you could probably get the right stuff off the 'net on another computer and put it on your PC from a disk, flash drive, or whatever. Once you can actually get on the internet on the computer in question, then you could theoretically get everything else you need to get the system running smoothly then.

Someone said to do something like that...but then I was wondering if it was worth the trouble.

Well, if you don't think it's worth the trouble then I guess there's no point in telling you what you could do. Noobishly fiddling with a Linux install presents a million ways to fill an entire day when you've got nothing much to do, I know that much. Especially if you're using something that you're even less used to than normal.

Example: Going from GNOME, the generally accepted "standard" Linux desktop far as I'm aware, to one of the more oddball ones that doesn't rely so much on windows like people have come to expect because of... well, Windows.

I personally prefer KDE over Gnome, but then again, they could have mutated without me knowing considering I'm several versions of Linux behind the new stuff

I honestly hate Apple and all that it stands for. People have to "jailbreak" most every Apple product. Do you hear about all this "jailbreak" madness for Windows and Linux systems?

No, because you can already do whatever you want with the OS, you actually have the tools to fix it if you screw up rather than having to take it to a shop and pay ludicrous sums for it to be fixed, and so on. Right out of the box.

And "jailbreaking" is illegal. Yes, Apple can rob you blind with a lawyer with a fancy hairdo and suit if they find out you do this. Apple can rob you blind for doing otherwise perfectly legal things without their hindrance on your own Apple machine.

And I refuse to put up with that, so I do not have and probably never will have anything made by Apple. Knowing me, I'd get annoyed about Apple's dickery within five minutes of using it, jailbreak it a minute after that, and be in an actual jail the next day.

I've always thought that was funny. Honestly, an iPod touch is pretty useless without a jailbreak. Most everyone I know that has one has it jailbroken

Well, I prefer it over Apple, and I use Windows way more than Linux.

Well, I use Windows too. Doesn't mean it's not shit. I'm just too lazy to deal with all the shit Linux has going. Linux actually gives you everything you could possibly need or want to fix whatever problems it has, in every (successful) distro. But that's provided you know what you're doing, and I don't. So I'm more or less forced to stick to Windows for any practical purpose. But some say... some day!

I could deal with most of it, considering it never really gave me any problems beyond my limited reach. Its just that I prefer not to mess with it anyways

I'm a fixer. Problem is, I usually break things when I start trying to "fix" tiny perceived problems that irk my OCD.

Ubuntu is extremely professional to the point that it would've been able to give Gates a run for his money under different circumstances. Fedora and some others are getting to such a point, as well.

But yes, a Blackberry is a very good phone for practicality's sake. If memory serves, it was the popular cell phone pick, before the iPhone, back when people tended to have considerably more sense.

iPhone=$499 piece of conjugated plastic and silicon wrapped in a neat package. Limited capabilities when not illegally jailbroken. Rather boring
